The group Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also highly acclaimed studio musicians who worked with Boz Scaggs at the time) and bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. After a brief hiatus, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. The album is a departure from the ballads of previous albums and includes some heavy rock. This album was their first to go platinum in North America.
During the recording of the band's fifth album the band loses their manager and is faced with financial difficulties. They decide to record a brand new album and change their name to a different producer. The lead vocalist Fergie Frederiksen leaves the band
